Shawarma is the deeply marinated layers of beef, lamb or chicken stacked on a vertical spit and slowly turning against a soft grilling fire for hours. after cooking the meat is then shredded and wrapped in a pita bread, Tahini sauce (beef shawarma) and other goodies such as tomatoes, onions, and pickles, and vegetables of your choice. But you can get the similar result under 30 minutes using the grill.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs flank or skirt steak
- 1 tbsp shawarma Spice
- 2 tbsp vinegar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 red onion ,sliced
- pita bread
- 2 tomatoes, sliced
- 2 zucchinis, sliced and grilled
- tahini sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the grill to high
- In small bowl combine all the spices, garlic, oil, vinegar to create marinade.
- Add marinade over the meat and rub it to coat. let a side for 1 hour, or more if you have a time
- Transfer the marinated meat on the grill and cook it for few minutes on each side.
- Remove from the grill, cut them in 1/2 inch wide strips and serve on a pita bread with garnish of your choice. I used grilled zucchinis, tomatoes, red onion, pickles and tahini sauce.
